Ricardo Dias is the new Portuguese skimboarding champion and he is with all the letters: ce, eich, ei, em, pi … And he is because has made an awesome season.
One more time… Third in a raw. A Dogflut team rider is the champion of the Portuguese national league. Hugo Santos and Simao Pinto were the champs in previous editions and this year it was Ricardo’s turn.
He could not attend to first stop cause his job (and that was in Sesimbra, where he lives) and Portugues league is 5 stops, counting top 4 results of each rider, so Ricardo had no margin of error… (and he no needs it):
He was second in second stage of Santa Cruz and starts his race to the tittle, in spite of that Joao Pedro Guerreiro already counts two wins.
During northern weekend, the waves were top quality and Ricardo imposed his law to be first in both stops.
Beyond its success, it is worth mentioning a hero in the shadow of this story. One of those facts that the sport leaves us from time to time. With the title on the line and the pressure into the limit… Ricardo came to the beach to battle for his title with the big mistake of not having confirmed the pre-registration to compete on las stop, so he couldn’t to sign up!
Simao Pinto, champion, teammate and good friend, gave him his place in the contest (at the expense of keeping him out), so that Ricardo had the opportunity to fight for a title that, without a doubt, he deserved.
All to decide in always classic spot, Sao Pedro do Estoril. Ricardo doesn’t calculate his options to be a champion mathematically. He just did what he knows… Skimboarding and enjoy. Said and done, he also won the last stage and was proclaimed champion of Portugal for the first time.
Awesome season for him! In add he was also runner-up in the Trafalgar International, in Cádiz.
