The throne is for the king and the king is Leandro Azevedo, champion of Sununga King of skim 2019.
He is back at home and is back on the throne after an epic contest. Heat by heat, winning every round. Talent always returns and Leandro show it after a long and difficult recovering process of a back injury. He won, he deserved, but as he says “really he didn’t expect a win. Was focused on the crown, and ready to get it, but sincerelly didn’t expect to win”. Always trust on talent potential.
Was beauty days at Sununga paradise during the weekend, but “everybody was waiting for epic waves during the week” and it arrives only on Saturday sider was working during first morning to complete the pro división heats where our rider shows how to control that perfect wave, entering on quarterfinals with no problem. After that, heats was cancelled because hard winds to next day.
Next day positive vibes to compete against one of best skimboarders in brazilian scene and friend of Leandro, Pablo Marreco. “Looking ahead with an eye focused on the final and victory. That’s the way” and our rider advanced to semifinals man on man “in a very tight heat, where I get the passport by half of a point, and just after know it I was waiting in my mind a battle with Renato Lima” in another awesome heat, because he is a supertop skimboarder, but into the same round, Bruno Passos kick him out. And after that Romario da Sousa, from Espirito Santo, advance over Bruno on semifinal, where Leandro get the pass to the great final against another local skimboarder, Jacks Rodrigues.
Final round was an interesting battle, where Leandro competed as he like, controling the heat getting solid scores trying to find best wave option and Romario showing his potencial with radical skills on critical zones. As Leandro says “was a really tigh final where Romario ride two nice waves with good potencial, and I though about he wins for sure, but I found the energy to ride an awesome frontside liner finished with radical airdrop to the sand that turns the final on me” and a combo of 360’s wave brought the victory, the Crown and real happiness to Leandro.
Never give up, never forget to trust your talent and your board. Leandro wants to “have a word to my sponsors Dogflut skimboards, always shaping good boards for me, Coco traction and to Linda Fidelis and Caneiro for shooting cool photos/videos and to all the people sharing their energy and to dedicate the victory to my daughter Mahara. Valeu. Tamosjuntos’ familia!”.
